About Our Ministry | Faith-Based Missions in Mexico
Learn about our faith-driven mission to serve children, equip disciples, and build Christ-centered communities in Mexico.
Rooted in faith and sustained by prayer, Hogar de Esperanza, Misericordia y Amor began as a vision to bring God’s hope to children and families in need.
Today, we are blessed to see generations of young men and women trained, educated, and equipped to serve as pastors, teachers, and missionaries.
Our work
We believe in the transforming power of the Gospel and the importance of equipping believers for lifelong service.
Our Programs
We care for 35-40 children at any time. We have a capacity for 60.
The children that we take care of are placed in our home by the Department of Infants and Children (which is the Mexican equivlent to Child Protective Services here in the states. Most of the children are not orphans in the sense of not having parents, but their parents are not able to care for them mostly due to drug use. Our goal to provide a loving environment where they can grow physically and spiritually, and when they are ready to leave they will be able to stand on their own as believers in Christ, and be able to serve Him as well as support their own families.
Our Story
Dave and Carol Scott spent most of their lives in Ferron, Utah, where Dave worked for more than 30 years at a local power company. Living in a community where mission work was common, Dave often heard about short-term and long-term mission trips. At first, the idea stirred excitement—“That’s something we should do.” But just as quickly came the doubts: I’m too old. I don’t speak Spanish. Carol has diabetes. The excuses felt reasonable.
Still, the calling wouldn’t go away.
Eventually, Dave followed that tug on his heart and led a youth group on a mission trip to Mexico. As they crossed the border, something unexpected happened—Dave was overcome with emotion. He knew, without question, that God was calling him not just to visit Mexico, but to serve there.
After returning to Utah, Dave and Carol spent months in prayer and seeking wise counsel. Dave requested early retirement, and the family traveled back to Mexico. As they visited different villages, everything changed when they arrived in the city of Navojoa, Sonora. Dave later described it as a clear and unmistakable moment—“This is where I want you.”
Dave and Carol attended Spanish language school in Texas before moving permanently to Sonora, Mexico. They began church-planting efforts in Las Camotes and later in Navojoa, faithfully serving the local communities for years.
Then, something unexpected happened again.

Home of Hope, Mercy, and Love
Founded by Dave and Carol Scott
Within a short period of time, two separate groups of siblings arrived at their door—hungry, displaced, and with nowhere to go. Dave and Carol took the children in temporarily, but at this stage of life, they knew they could not provide long-term care on their own. Although relatives were eventually found for those children, the seed had been planted.
That moment became the beginning of the Home of Hope, Mercy, and Love.
After years of prayer, planning, construction, and working through the Mexican equivalent of Child Protective Services, the orphanage officially opened its doors in 2018, welcoming its first children. Since then, the campus has continued to grow. Today, the House of Hope, Mercy, and Love is home to approximately 35 children, providing them with safety, stability, education, and—most importantly—love.
Through God’s provision and the faithfulness of dedicated donors, volunteers, and staff, these children are given the opportunity to heal, grow, and build a hopeful future.
